Money Design is the pioneer that launched the very first robo-advisory service (“THEO”) in Japan in 2016, under the regulation of the Japan Financial Services Agency. Silverlake Group is a digital innovation leader with over 30 years of experience in the financial, capital market, fund management, payment, and digital economy services in Malaysia and throughout Asia.
Together they formed GAX MD, a joint venture designed to tailor the THEO investment service for Malaysians (hence, "MYTHEO") and change the way everyday Malaysians invest for good.
Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Munir is currently the Chairman of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad, of ASEAN Business Advisory Council, Malaysia, of CIMB ASEAN Research Institute, as well as the President of the ASEAN Business Club. He also sits on the board of the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia and on the Financial Services Talent Council of Bank Negara Malaysia. He is a Fellow Chartered Banker of the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers and a member of the Economic Action Council appointed by the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.
Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Munir obtained a B.Sc (Econ) and Ph.D in International Relations from the London School of Economic and Political Science (LSE) in 1971 and 1978. He is an Honorary Fellow of LSE and continues the long association with his alma mater as Visiting Senior Fellow at the Centre of International Affairs, Diplomacy and Strategy. He is also an associate of Southeast Asia Centre (SEAC) at LSE.
Mr. Tan brings with him more than 35 years of experience in the financial, investment and capital market industry.
Since 2001, Mr. Tan has been the Managing Director of Silverlake Capital Market Solution, where he is overall responsible for the business growth, strategic collaboration and value creation. He also leads the Silverlake Group’s Fintech transformation strategy. Prior to joining the Silverlake Group, Mr. Tan served as Group Head of IT and Operations for Hwang-DBS Investment Bank. Mr. Tan also served as the First Vice President, Chief Information Officer Group IT and Banking Operations for OCBC Bank. In both of these positions, he was primarily responsible for the Bank’s strategic planning, digital innovation, operations and process re-engineering.
Mr. Tan received an Honours Degree in Computer Science and Accounting from Monash University, Australia in 1984.
Mr. Taniya has broad range of investment experiences. His early career is illustrated by his successful years at Salomon Brothers, where he joined in 1987, became the youngest managing director in Asia and led the proprietary trading division for Asia, including Japan.
He then joined Tudor Capital (Japan) as one of the founding partners, and led an MBO to find Asuka Asset Management and has made it a leading independent hedge fund in Japan.
As a venture capitalist, he initiated the launch of Lifenet Insurance Company, the first online insurance company in Japan, and invested in the development of other FinTech companies. He founded Money Design Inc., the first Digital Advisor company in Japan.
Ms. Goh’s early career started at Cornerstone Research, a leading U.S. based economic consulting firm that provides analytical support and expert testimony in complex litigation and regulatory proceedings. While being based in the United States as their economic consultant, Ms. Goh was responsible to analyse litigation cases involving market manipulation in the Financial Services, Energy and Commodities sectors. She also conducted investment decision analyses involving complex foreign tax, auction rate securities and mortgage backed securities. These analyses were used to backup testifying experts’ reports for large litigation cases involving class-action lawsuits, U.S. Futures Commodity Trading Commission, Securities Exchange Commission and Department of Justice.
In 2014, Ms. Goh returned to Malaysia after spending 12 years in the United States and joined as Executive Director of Silverlake Axis Ltd leading the Group’s strategic acquisitions and investments team. Here, she was responsible for evaluating investment opportunities and led several corporate initiatives, including corporate restructuring and financing, which focused on growth and value creation.
Ms. Goh graduated from Duke University in 2010 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Mathematics.
Mr. Yamabe is the President of Money Design Co., Ltd. He was the Founder & CEO of Riocee Inc. which was acquired by Money Design in 2018. Most recently, he was the CEO of Incapture Japan where he headed the Japan business for Incapture, a NY/SF based Hedge Fund & FinTech company. Before he joined Incapture, Mr. Yamabe was a Managing Director and a member of the Management Committee with BlackRock Japan (formerly Barclays Global Investors), and served as the Head of Fixed Income where he was responsible for managing fixed income portfolios totaling $100+ billion in assets. Prior to joining Barclays in 2007, Mr. Yamabe was a Managing Director with Simplex Asset Management, a Tokyo based hedge fund, overseeing teams managing fixed income arbitrage strategies and fund-of-hedge funds. He received an MA in Economics from Osaka University.
Mr. Ho served as the Chief Executive Officer of RHB Asset Management Sdn Bhd (RHBAM). He provided strategic direction for RHBAM's products and services as well as oversaw the regional retail marketing arm of the asset management's business expansion to Singapore, Indonesia and Hong Kong.
He was also the Chief Executive Officer at OSK-UOB Investment Management Berhad and served as its Designated Futures Fund Manager. Prior to working in the fund management industry, he spent 24 years in the banking and financial services industry. He holds the Capital Market Services Representative's Licence.
Mr. Stuart-Box received his Master’s degree in Mathematics from Cambridge University. Prior to joining Money Design, he was a Managing Director of BlackRock Japan (formerly Barclays Global Investors) in Tokyo and San Francisco. Mr. Stuart-Box also served as the Head of Scientific Active Equity, responsible for managing Japanese and Asian equity portfolios totaling $10+ billion in assets and all Japanese equity research and model development.
Professor Kato graduated with a Master’s degree from Tokyo Institute of Technology and later obtained his PhD from Kyoto University. He joined Nomura Research Institute in 1980, working in the Financial Engineering team in New York and London before becoming the Head of the Quantitative Research department in Tokyo. In 1997, he moved to Nomura Securities to become the Head of the Financial Engineering Research Center and later the Head of the Fiduciary Service Research Center. He was promoted to executive director in 2005.
Professor Kato was appointed to professor at Kyoto University Graduate School of Business in April 2011. Since 2016, he has also been a member of the Japan Government Pension Investment Fund’s investment committee.
Mr. Ong has been in the technology industry for over 35 years, with over 25 years in the financial sector. He led a team that pioneered the first online stock trading solution in Malaysia. His experience includes lecturing at a local University and advancing Computer Integrated Manufacturing. He has led teams to win numerous national and IBM awards on digital innovation solutions.
Prior to joining Silverlake, Mr. Ong was the CEO of Capmart Technology Sdn Bhd which specialised in Portfolio, Trustee and Stock Trading systems. He was the CTO of Patimas Berhad specialising in Broker back office systems and stock trading. He started his career as a system developer and has experience in sales and marketing, customer support and management. Mr. Ong holds a MSc in Computer Science and a BA degree from Ohio Wesleyan University, USA.
