A Digital Investment Service is an automated, algorithm-driven financial planning and investment service that automatically invests client assets based on information and profiles provided by the clients. The investment service is provided using only algorithm which also eliminates the intervention of human emotion.
MYTHEO is the Malaysian version of THEO Japan which is one of the leading digital financial advisors and asset management companies based in Japan. The principle of our portfolio strategy is to deliver a specifically customized portfolio for investors based on their individual risk profiles and long-term goals. The algorithm is used to construct a customized portfolio by combining weights from three functional sub-portfolios, which are the Growth, Income and Inflation Hedge portfolios.
Meanwhile, another set of algorithm constructs each functional portfolio, which results in over 25 ETFs covering different asset classes across multiple global region.
Through this two-stage portfolio construction utilising algorithms and investment in low-cost ETFs, the portfolio will indirectly own more than 10,000 securities in the underlying. In this instance, the risks are well-distributed. Any event that affects the individual stock will only have a little impact on the overall portfolio.
The fund manager for MYTHEO is GAX MD SDN BHD, a licensed entity approved by the Securities Commission (SC) Malaysia. The company is jointly owned by Silverlake Digital INX which is part of the Silverlake Group, a digital innovation leader in Asia, and Money Design, which is one of the leading digital asset management companies in Japan.
MYTHEO is a personalized investment service that utilizes the technology to assist clients to invest globally and diversify risks. Our platform is flexible, automated and low-cost. Our mission is to help our clients to accomplish three main financial goals:
MYTHEO is currently operating only in Malaysia. However, THEO Japan has been operating since February 2016 and is currently servicing more than 100,000 clients.
At MYTHEO, what you see is what you pay. No trading fee, no exchange fee, no redemption fee, no surprise charges, and that’s a promise.
MYTHEO's investment process requires the construction of portfolios in TWO-STAGES by utilizing different sets of algorithms at each stage. In the first stage, the algorithm is used to construct a CUSTOMIZED PORTFOLIO through the allocation of weightages from three functional portfolios: THE GROWTH PORTFOLIO, INCOME PORTFOLIO and INFLATION HEDGE PORTFOLIO.
The construction of the CUSTOMIZED PORTFOLIO is based on the risk profile and objective of each investor that are collected through the questionnaires. If the investor does not agree with the recommended portfolio, the investor has the flexibility to adjust the asset allocation based on his/her risk preference.
In the second stage, an algorithm is used to construct each functional portfolio (GROWTH PORTFOLIO, INCOME PORTFOLIO and INFLATION HEDGE PORTFOLIO) utilising more than 25 ETFs. At this stage, the MYTHEO fund manager has full discretionary to decide the asset allocation using a different set of algorithms.
Below are details of the functional portfolios of MYTHEO.

At MYTHEO, we utilise technology as an interface in building and maintaining relationships with investors. We use the power of the internet and digital network to enable our investors to have direct access to our services. With this, we eliminate the need for third party distribution which can be very costly.
The core of our investment process is a sophisticated algorithm and artificial intelligence to construct a portfolio using low-cost instruments such as ETFs. Due to our model, we don’t have to spend to hire a team of Analysts and Fund Managers. The wonderful part is that the majority of the cost savings are returned to the investor in the form of lower fees.
We invest primarily in US listed ETFs that require USD for investment. Therefore, we convert all non-USD currencies into USD in order to invest in the selected ETFs.
MYTHEO invests in ETFs because they are the most cost-effective way to build highly diversified portfolios. ETFs are exchange listed products and we select ones with deep liquidity, high trading volumes, and low expense fees.
Currently MYTHEO only invest in conventional ETFs across all asset classes such as Equity, Fixed Income and Commodities.

This enables MYTHEO to create your investment risk profile, design a portfolio that meets your investment needs and select the ETFs to invest in.
Through scanned copy of your MyKad (front and back) for Malaysians or passport for foreigners residing in Malaysia, a current utility bill or a copy of your Bank Statement.

An Exchange-trade fund (“ETF”) is an investment fund that is traded on a stock exchange. An ETF is designed to track a specified index by holding assets such as stocks, bonds or commodities that match the index. By buying a unit in the ETF, an investor can get exposure to all of the assets held by the ETF.
ETFs offer a low-cost, highly efficient way for individual investors to build portfolios with more flexibility, greater transparency and lower costs as compared to traditional mutual funds.
ETFs are similar to mutual funds since they contain a basket of securities, but unlike mutual funds that are priced once a day, ETFs can be traded intraday.
Investing in ETFs allows for low expenses, low trade costs, diversification and liquidity.
MYTHEO invests in ETFs across all asset classes across Equity, Fixed Income and Commodities. Please click on the link below to view the list of ETFs that are currently inside our investment universe:
https://www.mytheo.my/mytheo/etfs.html
The US is the largest ETF market in the world. It has the widest range of ETFs and the most liquidity. There are US-denominated ETFs that offer exposure to a very wide range of global markets. This enables us to create client portfolios quickly and cost-effectively.
Dividends paid by ETFs in your portfolio will be credited to your MYTHEO account and then automatically reinvested. If you wish to receive the dividends, you will need to withdraw part of the operating funds.
MYTHEO is just the service provider, you are the legitimate owner of the ETFs in your portfolio.
ETFs, similar to stocks and mutual funds, have risks. Risks include the following:
Losses may occur due to the risk mentioned above and affect the investment principal amount.
Currently there is no comparable benchmark. We aim to operate in accordance with investment objectives of each functional portfolio (Growth • Income • Inflation Hedge).
Each functional portfolio has a benchmark to measure its long-term performance. Having said that, the benchmark is just for our reference and we do not aim to track these indices. Consequently, there will be large deviations in performances in the short-term.

At MYTHEO, we always encourage investors to invest regularly because we believe that an investment needs time to grow. So, the longer your money is invested, the higher your chances of reaching your goals.
Investing the same amount on a regular basis is called "dollar cost averaging" and is a popular investing technique.
By investing the same amount regularly, regardless of whether the market is high or low, you can reduce the risk of investing too much when the market is expensive. If you continue to invest fixed amounts at regular intervals, over time, your purchase prices will be averaged out. Also, by setting up an automatic bank payment on a fixed date each month, you can invest for the long term without being influenced by short-term market fluctuations.
By registering with MYTHEO’s Regular Savings Plan which is an automated standing instruction, you are committing a fixed amount of money to invest, on a regular basis (e.g. the 28th of every month). It removes the hassle for you to remember and perform the fund transfer yourself monthly.
Deposit is used if you intend to perform a single investment on MYTHEO.
Regular Savings is an automated standing instruction that you set on MYTHEO, which allows you to commit a fixed amount of money to invest, on a regular basis (e.g. the 28th of every month). When you enroll for regular savings, you allow your bank to deduct funds from your bank account into MYTHEO which would then be invested, making your future regular investments hassle-free.
Deposit Reminder is an alert which you can set to remind yourself to perform deposits into your MYTHEO account. On the date when the reminder is due, you will receive an email and a push notification message that pops up on your mobile device.
Yes, it is recommended to have regular savings with MYTHEO. One of the fundamental principles of investing is to put your money to work as soon as possible. Investing on a regular basis regardless of whether the price is high or low can help you become a more disciplined investor. This takes some of the emotion out of investing, avoids any delays in putting your money to work and avoids the pitfalls of trying to time the market.
Ensure that you have registered for internet banking before you register for MYTHEO’s Regular Savings Plan. This is because you are required to login to your internet banking portal to have your account credentials authenticated (i.e. self-authentication).
You can then set up regular savings at your convenience by following the steps below:
For investors with multiple portfolios, you may allocate your savings amount to each portfolio manually. Alternately, you may select the “Auto Allocate” option if you wish to let the system distribute the savings amount evenly to all your portfolios.
You can register for the Regular Savings Plan as soon as all relevant supporting documents (i.e. NRIC/Passport and/or utility bills) submitted during your initial MYTHEO registration have been successfully verified by the MYTHEO team.
You are able to deduct funds for your Regular Savings Plans from a maximum of two (2) Banks. Do note that you can only assign one regular savings deduction per Bank per date.
However, you may have two (2) regular savings deductions standing instruction per month on different dates from different Banks. For example, funds can be deducted from one account in Bank A on the 7th and another account in bank B on the 28th of the month.
The minimum savings amount for the Regular Savings Plan is MYR100 per transaction while the maximum savings amount per transaction is MYR30,000*.
*Subject to your internet banking limit with your bank, whichever is lower.
To ensure that the bank account which you have nominated is active, MYR1.00 will be debited (i.e. deducted) from your account during the registration of the Regular Savings Plan. However, GAX MD will refund MYR1.00 to you via a reinvestment into your MYTHEO account upon successful registration.
Your email address and mobile number are defaulted on the Regular Savings registration screen. You may choose to have your scheduled savings date on the 7th, 14th, 21st or 28th of the month.
Your account will be deducted once your bank receives an instruction which is generated and sent on the morning of the 28th every month. Your money will be invested on the next business day, provided that the 28th is a business day. However, if 28th is a non-business day, the process will be carried forward to the next business day.

There is no limit imposed on the number of Portfolio Switching an investor can perform per calendar year.
The amount that you can switch must be denominated in MYR.
It will take within one to two business days to complete the switching process. This is because when a switching request is made, it triggers the algorithm to sell some/all of your ETFs from the source portfolio and repurchase new ETFs for the target portfolio.
Once the switching confirmation button is selected, you will not be able to cancel it.
The actual amount switched may differ subject to the quantity of fractional units of ETF that can be sold and bought during trading.

In addition, two-factor authentication (2FA) is used: One Time Password (OTP) and CAPTCHA
2FA is a security process in which the user provides two different authentication factors to verify themselves to better protect their credentials. This will add an additional layer of security to the authentication by making it harder for unauthorised access to our customer's accounts, thus the password alone is not enough to pass the authentication check.
We also advocate a strong password policy which is an essential protection from financial fraud and identity theft. This password policy requires passwords to be between 8 to 20 characters and contain at least:
Apart from the above security measures, we practice account lockouts in which users only have 3 login attempts to enter their password before their account is locked. This is to prevent any malicious attempt from guessing the username and password to gain access to other accounts.
There is also an option for bio-metrics login using fingerprints (both iOS and Android devices) and facial recognition (iOS devices) which does not require a password to login.
For security reasons, the application will automatically log you out after a period of inactivity.
You are allowed to sign on through multiple devices (web and app) but only one sign on is allowed at any one time.
